About BlankSage

Building better ways to evaluate learning.

We build assessment tools that turn every answer sheet into something a student, a teacher, and an institution can learn from — replacing weeks of late, single-number marks with immediate pedagogical insight.

Why BlankSage exists

Correction season stalls an entire institution.

Thousands of answer sheets move through tired hands over several weeks. What finally reaches the student is just a score — long after the moment to learn from it has passed.

The Status Quo

Weeks of manual grading, delayed feedback, and faculty exhaustion.

Correction periods paralyze academic schedules. Teachers spend late nights tallying subparts, yet students only receive an isolated number weeks later.

  • ✕Fatigue-induced grading variance — paper #100 is rarely graded like paper #1.
  • ✕Sub-part marks and rich error signals get lost forever in paper bundles.
  • ✕No institution-wide analytics to identify syllabus blindspots before finals.
The BlankSage Standard

Rubric-backed evaluation that uncovers the hidden signal in every sheet.

We believe the final mark is the least interesting part of evaluation. The real value is everything the answer script reveals about student understanding.

  • AI evaluates against your specific marking scheme with step-by-step reasoning.
  • Teachers retain full agency: verify, edit, annotate, or override in one click.
  • Instant cohort diagnostics highlight recurring misconceptions the next morning.

“We think the mark is the least interesting part of evaluation. The valuable part is everything a paper already knows and never says: which step broke, which idea did not land, and how many students got stuck in exactly the same place.”

— The BlankSage Philosophy

What we are building

From answers to better teaching.

BlankSage connects handwritten answers, objective MCQs, curriculum composition, and examination workflows into one unified platform, transforming scores into pedagogical insight.

01

Answers

Real Student Work

Handwritten papers, physical answer booklets, objective MCQs, and digital responses captured seamlessly.

02

Evaluation

Rubric-First Grading

AI-assisted first-pass citations matched strictly against your official marking scheme with teacher sign-off.

03

Insights

Granular Diagnostics

Pinpoint exactly which step broke, which misconceptions spread across cohorts, and which topics need review.

04

Better Teaching

Actionable Interventions

Teachers save hundreds of marking hours while students receive prompt, transparent, formative feedback.

Our approach

Five foundational principles.

Assessment is not generic OCR or text generation. It requires deep pedagogical context, strict rubric fidelity, and faculty-in-the-loop validation.

01

Context

An answer is read in light of its question and its subject, not as loose text.

02

Rubrics

Marking follows the scheme an institution chose, criterion by criterion, and can be edited.

03

Structured evaluation

Every mark is tied to a step and carries a reason a teacher can check and change.

04

Data

Once answers are structured, patterns across students and classes become visible.

05

Product design

The interface keeps the teacher in charge: edit, re-evaluate, flag or approve.

How we got here

Five turns, from a staff room complaint to today's product.

The key turning points that shaped why BlankSage is engineered differently from standard edtech tools.

The observation

It started in a staff room, not a pitch deck.

Teachers kept describing the same fortnight: stacks of answer sheets, evenings gone, and a growing suspicion that the hundredth paper was not being marked the way the first one was. Nobody was asking for AI. They were asking for their evenings back.

The hard part first

Handwriting, before anything else.

Every shortcut in this space starts with typed text or bubble sheets. We started with what institutions actually have: real handwriting, in real conditions, with diagrams and equations in the margins. A tool that cannot read the paper cannot help with it.

The correction

Teachers told us the score was not the problem. Defending it was.

So evaluation became rubric-first and fully reviewable: every mark tied to a criterion, every suggestion visible and editable, and nothing published until a teacher signs off on it.

Beyond the mark

The data was already there. It just had nowhere to go.

Once thousands of answers are structured, the patterns are unavoidable: the question everyone lost marks on, the concept a whole section never absorbed. Analytics stopped being a reporting feature and became the point of the exercise.

Where we are now

Built alongside the people using it.

BlankSage is shaped release by release with schools, coaching centres and universities. They tell us when a rubric does not fit, when a report is missing a column, and when we have made something harder than the red pen it replaced.

Our Vision

Make every evaluation more meaningful.

Most of what an answer sheet reveals is thrown away with the red pen. We want each one to leave something useful behind: for the student who wrote it, the teacher who marked it, and the institution that set it.
